Implementation of these practices help your students focus better, listen more attentively, feel safer and engage more fully in their learning. There’s also the added benefit of increased calm within yourself and the classroom!
This training is designed to meet you with practical skills and exercises given the reality of your responsibilities as a teacher, regardless if you are a new teacher or are on the cusp of retirement. Participating teachers will explore wildlife species, habitat development, and future forest improvements, all while immersed in the project-based experience itself—you become the students and the students become the teachers. The school district has partnered with Northlakes Clinic on a grant opportunity to bring our school/community free training and materials for Teen Intervene, an SBIRT (screening, brief intervention, and referral to treatment) program for substance use to people currently working with youth in our area. This program is an evidence-based practice and time-efficient program for teenagers (12-19) suspected of experiencing a mild or moderate substance use disorder (covering all drugs but a special focus on alcohol, marijuana, and tobacco use.) It's a program designed to include a teen's parents/guardians (when able), incorporates the stages of change model, motivational interviewing, and cognitive-behavioral therapy but does not need to be facilitated by a therapist or substance use counselor to be effective. Studies have demonstrated high success for use in schools with teachers and/or other trained school staff along with other youth-serving professionals.
There will be 8 hours of training (8-4:30 with a 1/2 hr lunch) on Thursday August 9th and we will be in the HS front office conference room DATES: August 9

Classroom management is traditionally a matter of encouraging good behavior and discouraging bad by doling out rewards and punishments. In Better Than Carrots or Sticks, longtime educators and best-selling authors Dominique Smith, Douglas Fisher, and Nancy Frey provide a practical blueprint for creating a cooperative and respectful classroom climate in which students and teachers work through behavioral issues together. After a comprehensive overview of the roots of the restorative practices movement in schools, the authors explain how to
